Journalled on Thursday, 2nd of February 2023 | Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro: 29 degrees, hot and sunny.

Yasmin has arrived, and I’m paying for her to exercise at one of the schools on the beach.

However, she isn’t taking it seriously enough for my standards. After a serious conversation, I made it clear that I would continue paying only if she took it seriously.

I study every day and want to do as much as possible. Unfortunately, there’s a problem with the TV, and I’m still waiting to hear back from TIM. But I don’t care much for the TV. Even though I have cable, I find it boring, have lost the habit of watching the news, and never follow soap operas.

I also prefer watching films online, so it’s not a big deal if the TV stays broken.

Yesterday, I had to attend a wake at São João Batista Cemetery for a pupil’s mother-in-law, Dona Cecilia, who had passed away at the age of 94. She was in good health all her life and only began having health problems in the last six months.

I have visited São João Batista cemetery several times, including two years ago when a friend’s wife died of cancer and was buried there, and when Paulo, Cibele’s brother, who had Down syndrome, was buried there about 10 or 15 years ago.

During my last visit to the cemetery, I spent over an hour walking around, taking pictures of the various strange and beautiful graves and tombs. I found it interesting to see how families in the past spent a fortune building a grave in the form of a sanctuary, with sculptures and everything, for a deceased loved one. It is as if they believed the tomb would guarantee a better afterlife for their loved ones.

I appreciated the craftsmanship and found the dates of death interesting.

There were enormous tombs that had stood there for over 100 years, and, in most cases, nobody nowadays would know who the person who had died was. That day, walking around the cemetery and taking photos was very enjoyable. Besides being attractive, the cemetery was in excellent condition and quite beautiful.

My recent experience made me think about life and its purpose. It made me realise that every moment we get to live is a blessing. Death is inevitable; once it happens, there is no going back.

Therefore, we must cherish every moment of life, whether good or bad, because each experience is an opportunity to learn and grow, and once it’s gone, it’s gone.

Thank you.

Journalled on Tuesday, 31 January 2023 | Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro: 32 degrees, very hot, with a little cloud.

Today, I had to make multiple trips to the TIM telecommunications store in the Rio Sul shopping centre due to issues I faced while migrating from Oi to TIM.

The migration process should typically be easy and hassle-free, but it turned out to be complicated, and I encountered a significant problem during my visits.

It was evident that the shop assistants lacked adequate training and preparation to address customer issues effectively. Instead of genuinely assisting customers, they focused more on selling new plans to meet their sales targets. This approach is prevalent in today’s business landscape, where companies prioritise acquiring new clients over keeping existing ones.

Former pupils with high-ranking positions in global organisations have echoed this perspective. Keeping current customers by providing excellent service and fostering loyalty is essential, rather than losing them to competitors.

Yet, in many cases, businesses prioritise attracting new customers away from the competition while neglecting their existing customer base. This approach may lead to significant customer and revenue losses in the long run.

I am facing a dilemma with TIM, which is leading me to consider an unconventional path: going “rogue” with a prepaid plan. This is especially important since I will be spending some time outside Brazil. Before I go to England, I need to take care of some loose ends, such as getting a new copy of my Brazilian ID and securing an international credit card.

In addition, I am at a crossroads, with new possibilities ahead, and am determined to explore diverse sources of income this year. I plan to start a YouTube channel with AI, invest in Print-on-Demand, offer Travel services with language classes, launch a Bracelet brand, venture into affiliate and digital marketing, and pursue my passion for Photography.

The upcoming months are full of important decisions and actions that will shape my financial future. It is a lot to undertake, but I am eager to tackle each stage at a time. Today’s experience has highlighted the evolving landscape of big businesses, where customers are often left feeling undervalued or neglected.

However, this experience can also be a chance to explore new income streams and help us move our financial goals in a different, more promising direction. The crucial aspect to consider is having a “side hustle.”

Everyone should have a side hustle as a backup plan in today’s workplace, regardless of their profession. Ultimately, may you, too, find the courage to find new ways and seize fresh opportunities!

Thank you.

Journalled on Monday, 30th of January 2023 | Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro: 32 degrees, hot and sunny.

I couldn’t follow my morning exercise routine today, but it wasn’t a wasted day. It turned out to be quite productive.

I spent my time giving many classes and immersing myself in online studies, eager to complete as many courses as possible in the first part of this year. My plan is simple: absorb knowledge now and turn it into action and tangible results in the latter half of the year. In other words, make money.

However, the day brought a poignant moment: I lost a long-standing pupil who had been with me for a considerable time. It serves as a sign, a nudge, a push from the universe, reminding me that change is on the horizon. It is another step in the new direction I have chosen to follow.

As we say goodbye to January, a month often characterised by its sluggish pace, I can’t help but note that this one has been different. Given the circumstances, it has been relatively good, which fills me with optimism. As I move into the year, there is a sense of purpose, momentum, and focus.

My mind is already occupied with thoughts of England, the upcoming journey, and the planning ahead. I have many tasks to tackle before I leave Brazil, and I’m determined to tackle them with everything I’ve got.

The day may have begun without its customary exercise, but it was far from uneventful or unproductive. It was a day marked by productivity, a shift in work dynamics, and a reminder that change is inevitable and often a catalyst for growth.

Embrace change and step towards a brighter future; be inspired.

Thank you.

Journalled on Saturday, 28th of January 2023 | Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro: 30 degrees, hot, sunny and a little unstable.

Today has been a great day filled with many activities and moments of reflection.

I dedicated this day to taking care of my home and tackling various tasks that needed my attention. I started my day by fixing a problematic toilet and doing some DIY repairs. After that, I defrosted and cleaned my fridge, leaving it spotless and ready for a fresh start. I also spent time cleaning the apartment and bathroom, which helped restore a sense of order and freshness to my home.

As I achieved my domestic goals, I found myself getting more organised. I sorted and organised my correspondence and work desk, tasks that had been on my to-do list for far too long. It’s remarkable how tidying up one’s living space and workspace can bring a sense of clarity and tranquillity.

At the end of the day, I treated myself to two of my favourite films: “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” and its sequel. Each film carries a distinct message that has resonated with me for a long time, especially on this day of productivity and self-reflection.

In the first movie, a powerful quote at the end reminds us never to give up in the face of life’s disappointments. It goes,

“Everything will be alright in the end, so if it is not alright, it is not the end.”

“The only real failure is the failure to try, and the measure of success is how we cope with disappointment. Remember, you are Everything, or you are nothing.”

For me, this is brilliant!! The second film teaches the value of letting go and embracing life’s natural course.

“You have no idea now what you will become and what will come; don’t try to control it. Let go!”

These words gently reassure us that sometimes, we must release our need for control and embrace the beauty of the unknown and the unexpected.

I must admit that I am feeling a bit insecure about the upcoming changes in my life that I have yet to experience.

It is a little unsettling, but I know it is necessary. I remind myself that with every small, steady step, these changes are taking shape, so Everything will eventually fall into place.

I am on a journey and firmly believe I will succeed. My victory will lead me to where I should be. The key is to persist, believe, and keep faith.

Today has been a day of accomplishments and inspiration, a reminder that, in the face of uncertainty, we have the power to persevere and embrace the unfolding path of life. As we navigate these changes, let us remember that success often comes down to resilience and unwavering belief.

May you find the strength and courage to navigate your path with unwavering belief and steadfast determination.

Thank you.

I appreciate your support. Please feel free to explore more blog posts and leave a comment. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Journalled on Friday, 27th of January 2023 | Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro: 28 degrees, hot and sunny.

It is 10 p.m., and I am writing in my diary again.

It’s been a month since I started journaling, and it’s become my most important companion. It is a place where I can confide my thoughts, worries, and plans.

My bond with my diary has become so strong that I miss it when I skip a day of writing. It has become part of my daily routine and helps me organise my life.

Today, Yasmin went back to her mother’s house. While I enjoy spending time with her, I also like being alone. Right now, I am writing in my diary with a bottle of wine, a gift from a student during Christmas.

I am grateful for the tranquillity of being alone, the company of my thoughts, and the presence of my diary. It reminds me that life’s simplest pleasures are often the best.

Writing in my diary at the end of the day helps me reflect on my life, find solace in solitude, and appreciate life’s small but profound moments. It reminds me that life’s greatest treasures are often right in front of us, waiting to be discovered or appreciated.

It’s a pleasure to have you here with me, taking the time to reflect and express gratitude. I hope you find joy in the simple things in life and that your diary – no matter what form it takes- becomes a close and valuable companion on your journey.

Thank you.

Thank you for your constant support. Please feel free to explore more of my blog posts, and don’t hesitate to comment; I always appreciate your thoughts.

Journalled on Thursday, 26th of January 2023 | Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro: 28 degrees, hot, sunny, and slightly overcast with showers.

As summer comes to a close, I’ve noticed the sun rising a little later each day.

When I wake up around 4:30 or 5:00 in the morning, the world is still dark, and the first streaks of dawn don’t appear until around 6:00 a.m., usually when I finish my workout. Seeing Rio come alive in the early hours, with few people around, feels peaceful.

However, today, I feel a bit nervous. It’s the end of the month, and I’m in a familiar situation: running low on funds. Being short of cash can cast a shadow over my mood, leaving me feeling restricted and without resources.

It’s a feeling I would rather avoid, like the devil fleeing from the cross!

I often think that one of the secrets to happiness is not being broke, or better yet, never being broke. I’m not suggesting immense wealth or millionaire status, but rather a level of comfort that lets us stop worrying constantly about money.

Yet, I’ve come to realise that even when I find myself in financially challenging circumstances, something remarkable usually happens: money finds its way to me. It flows in and out like the tide. The key, it seems, is not to obsess over money and what it represents.

Money is undeniably important for navigating the practical aspects of life. However, it should never become the sole focus. I’ve met many people with far more wealth than I do, yet they seem less happy.

Earlier today, I had a meaningful conversation with my younger daughter about the importance of making plans and setting goals for the year. We discussed envisioning the future we want, taking steps to make those aspirations a reality, and practising discipline.

Later on, I caught up with one of my oldest and closest students. He came to Copacabana to make a payment, but we ended up having a deeper conversation over coffee. We talked about various topics like life, politics, and more in English, a language that unites us.

I often offer suggestions to support his tourism business, especially during these challenging times when the industry faces significant obstacles. It reminds me that, in the midst of difficulties, connections and shared wisdom can make a world of difference.

This year is poised to be a tough one for Brazil politically and economically. However, it reminds us that life’s challenges are part of the journey. While money is essential, it should never overshadow the richness of experience, the guidance of wisdom, the power of relationships, or the pursuit of happiness.

May you find the balance between financial stability and true happiness!

Thank you.

I appreciate your support. Please explore more blog posts and feel free to leave a comment. I would always appreciate your thoughts.

Journalled on Wednesday, 25th of January 2023 | Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro: 28 degrees, hot, sunny, and slightly overcast with showers.

Today has been an incredibly fulfilling day, filled with productivity and the satisfaction of knowing that I have made the most of my time.

Looking back on my accomplishments, whether within a day or a week, always brings a sense of joy and pride. I find happiness in productivity and feel fulfilled when I have made the most of my time. Today was one of those days that justified that belief.

I started the day with an invigorating workout that left me feeling accomplished and reminded me of the power of pushing my limits. My classes today were another source of contentment. All of them went smoothly, and my pupils’ feedback was positive, which made it doubly good for me.

Amidst the hustle and bustle, I also took the time to organise my study materials, a task that had been lingering on my to-do list.

This small act of tidying up was both symbolic and rewarding as it represented the preparation and planning necessary for the month ahead.

This year will be an important one for me, marked by significant changes and transformations. Even more significant, though, is my unwavering belief in these changes. I don’t doubt their realisation, and that is the secret to success.

Belief drives us to move mountains. No matter the problems and obstacles we face, we must always hold on to unwavering faith.

By believing in ourselves and our vision, we set a powerful intention in motion that eventually comes to fruition. It may not always unfold exactly as we expect or imagine, but it still comes to pass.

Today has shown the power of belief. It reminds us that our thoughts and convictions can shape our reality. As we move forward and face challenges and opportunities, let us remember this lesson: believe in yourself and your vision, and watch as the world aligns with your goals.

Wishing you a journey filled with firm belief that pushes you towards your dreams and aspirations.

Thank you.

Thank you for your unwavering support. Please check out more of my blog posts and leave a comment; I always appreciate your thoughts.

Journalled on Monday, 23rd of January 2023 | Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro: 30 degrees, hot, sunny and stuffy.

As I go through my Monday filled with teaching and learning, I thought of sharing my ongoing journey into the world of filming and content creation.

Not too long ago, I bought a gimbal for my cell phone to use for filming. It sounded simple enough, but gimbal operation turned out to be anything but, especially for a beginner like me. The multitude of settings and the device’s complexity initially left me perplexed.

However, determined to master this device and gain a new skill, I turned to YouTube, the trusted source of knowledge nowadays. It proved invaluable, as always. I found instructional videos that clarified my doubts and provided step-by-step guidance.

This is a testament to the wealth of knowledge available to anyone with an internet connection and a thirst for learning.

In today’s digital age, acquiring new skills and expanding one’s horizons is just a click away. Now, I would like to tell you about my flat in Copacabana. It’s a charming one-bedroom apartment with a spacious living room and an enormous master bedroom.

But here’s the twist: I’ve adapted the maid’s bedroom, which is surprisingly roomy and comfortable, with its own small bathroom, into Yasmin’s personal bedroom. It boasts shelves, a desk, cupboards, and wardrobes, all in good taste – a room she can truly call her own.

However, in this current heatwave, Yasmin has chosen to set up camp in the living room at night. She made the decision, even though I offered my own bedroom.

She is loving the experience, as it harks back to when she was just 4 or 5 years old. Back then, when we lived in Flamengo, I would set up a tent in her bedroom, and she would enjoy the thrill of camping indoors.

So, every night now, she sleeps in the living room, reminiscent of those bygone indoor make-believe camping adventures. It’s a small reminder that life is full of delightful moments and unexpected pleasures, even on a Monday.

Remember that learning is a lifelong journey, and adaptability is essential for success. Life blends growth and nostalgia, whether you’re mastering modern technology or cherishing precious memories. When faced with challenges, it’s essential to address current obstacles and memories.

Thank you.

Thank you for your continued support. Please remember to explore more of my blog posts, and feel free to leave a comment; your thoughts are always appreciated.

Journalled on Thursday, 19th of January 2023 | Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro: 30 degrees, hot, and sunny.

Today, I want to share an honest glimpse into my morning routine, which started without enthusiasm.

Getting out of bed and heading to the gym can sometimes feel daunting. However, once you take that first step, everything else falls into place effortlessly.

As I started my workout routine today, I couldn’t help but think about the power of starting. The initial push may not always be easy, but it’s the catalyst for everything that follows.

It’s a reminder that sometimes, we must overcome that initial inertia to set the wheels in motion.

My day didn’t end with exercise and a walk; it continued with a mix of work, study, and a heartwarming conversation with Yasmin. The day was filled with simple joys and a sense of contentment. It reminded me that life often becomes more manageable once we take that first step, whatever it may be.

Later that day, on my way back from an in-person class for Dona Vera on the other side of Copacabana, I unexpectedly ran into an ex-girlfriend from 25 years ago.

She was stunning in her youth; time has done little to diminish her beauty. Yetshe was also undeniably complicated back then, and time may not have changed that.

Reflecting on that past relationship, I recalled the relief I felt when I chose to end it. I had allowed myself to endure unnecessary pain and suffering, and the decision to move on was a pivotal lesson in my life. It taught me that, more often than not, we have a say in the suffering we endure. We make choices, consciously or otherwise, that impact our well-being.

As our paths briefly crossed today, neither of us exchanged words or compliments. It was a surreal moment, like a distant echo from another life. The truth is, the past is precisely that: the past.

It’s a chapter closed, and we’ve moved forward. Looking back, it’s hard to fathom our choices and the pain we willingly subjected ourselves to then.

But today, I stand here as proof that we can choose a different path, free from unnecessary suffering. This lesson reminds me that we can shape our lives and make choices that lead to happiness and fulfilment; we need to be strong and courageous and take the plunge.

Remember that sometimes we need a little push to start something new and transform our lives. We should also recognise the power of choice and avoid needless pain and suffering.

We should learn from our past, but we shouldn’t let it define us. Instead, we should embrace challenges and let go of unnecessary suffering. Ultimately, the past is behind us, and the present offers a blank canvas to paint a brighter, more joyful future.

Thank you.

Are you someone who enjoys the simple pleasure of being alone?

If so, you’ll resonate with my Friday evening ritual, a cherished routine that allows me to unwind, recharge, and embrace the beauty of solitude.

As I do every day, I typically begin with an early morning exercise session right at the end of Leme. This routine kickstarts my day with a burst of energy and sets a positive tone. But today, Friday, there’s a unique sense of anticipation in the air.

Why, you ask? Well, Fridays sometimes grant me the luxury of finishing my work a little earlier than usual, and today was one such day, with my classes ending at 3 p.m.

As Yasmin, my younger daughter, headed back to her mother’s home, I found myself with a long weekend ahead, starting Friday afternoon. While some people might dread being alone, I embrace it with open arms. Don’t get me wrong.

I adore my daughter’s company and cherish every moment spent with her and with other people, too! Yet, there’s an undeniable charm in having some quality time all to myself. It’s a chance to do things my way, the way I want, shape my surroundings just the way I like, and enjoy the freedom that comes with it.

With the weekend ahead, I often indulge in a simple yet enjoyable Friday evening tradition: drinking a bottle of inexpensive wine while doing something I enjoy.

Whether I’m catching up on work, engrossed in a captivating book, or diving into some focused study, it’s a ritual I look forward to. The wine adds a touch of relaxation to the evening, making it all the more enjoyable.

For me, every moment of solitude is a precious opportunity to invest in self-care and replenish my well-being reserves. So, on this Friday evening, I found myself studying while sipping a glass of wine, an experience that always hits the spot.

By 10 p.m., I was already in bed, feeling content and at peace with the world. It’s a simple yet profoundly satisfying way to end the day, setting the stage for a secluded, peaceful weekend.

In a world where time often rushes too fast, taking a moment to embrace solitude and pamper yourself can bring immense balance to your life.

So, whether you’re a parent, a professional, or simply someone who values “my time,” consider incorporating a little Friday evening ritual like mine into your life. After all, there’s something extraordinary about creating your perfect sanctuary of peace and contentment, even if it’s just for a few precious hours or days.

Thank you.
