Sunday, the 23rd of April 2023: “Reflections of a Father: Cherishing Time with My Daughters and Embracing a New Year of Goals”!!!

Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro: 27 °C, warm, sunny and slightly overcast.

After a good but turbulent birthday, Sunday was a day of rest and peace.

I love my daughters, and their company is very special to me; just the fact that they are near and well, doing the things they want to do, is enough for me.

I woke up early to exercise, have coffee in my favourite bakery, and be home by 9 a.m. The rest of the day was spent basically doing nothing. Yasmin woke up at nine; I made her breakfast: toasted bread with cheese, ham, and a fried egg on top.

I am still broke, so I arranged with Yasmin to have lunch with her mother and for us to leave at about 2 p.m. to take her to her mother’s.

After breakfast, we spent an hour and a half having a father-and-daughter therapy session. Usually, Yasmin approaches me with questions, doubts, or insecurities about life, friends, school, and related topics. We talked about various aspects of life and the subject at hand so that she could better understand what life has in store for her and try to make life easier without unnecessary suffering.

My life has never been easy. I have never had any support from my parents, so I see it as my responsibility to provide her with the parental guidance I never had as a child. I enjoy our conversations.

She has openly expressed her enjoyment of our talks and how they have helped her better understand life, even amid its unfairness. After our one-on-one, she went to her bedroom to organise her things before leaving.

We left home at about half-past one; we arrived at Nalva’s and talked for about twenty minutes. Then, I went back to Copacabana before three. Looking back over the last few days, meeting old and dear friends, having lunch with my daughters, and having some quality time with Yasmin were excellent.

Our birthday is our new year; it is the day we were born into this world. So, each birthday is your new year, a new beginning to make plans and set goals.

I know my goals, my responsibilities, and what I must do in the new year.

In bed by 9.30 pm.

Thank you.
