Fridays | From Lazy Days to Busy Schedules

Journalled on Friday, 24th of March 2023 | Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro: 29 degrees, hot, sunny and slightly cloudy.

It feels like a busy day, but at the same time, I struggle with feeling lazy. It’s like there’s an internal battle going on within me because it’s the eve of the weekend.

I have fond memories from long ago, when I used to avoid giving classes after 2 p.m. on Fridays. I had a friend who owned a motorbike, and we would ride to Urca on Fridays after 2 p.m. We drank beer while sitting on the wall overlooking Botafogo Bay. We did this on and off for about six months.

I made enough money Monday through Friday mornings to have Friday afternoons off. Now I am older and slower, and I don’t have that privilege anymore.

In some ways, this experience mirrors the changes in Brazil, or at least Rio, where the quality of life was better before than it is today.

I mentioned earlier that I’ve been feeling lazy lately, but upon further reflection, I believe it’s actually fatigue, not laziness. I’ve been doing a lot of intense physical training, and I think it’s taking a toll on my body. Additionally, I may not be getting enough sleep or eating enough to fuel my body properly.

Last night, I went to bed late and woke up feeling tired. I need to improve my eating and sleeping habits.

In bed by 9 p.m.

Thank you.
