Field of Dreams with Kevin Costner

Journalled on Sunday, 26th of February 2023-Part 2 | Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro: 35 degrees, very hot, sunny and unstable weather.

The film I’d most like to watch again is “Field of Dreams,” starring Kevin Costner, Ray Liotta, James Earl Jones, and Amy Madigan. If you haven’t seen it, I suggest you watch it, as I consider it a modern classic. If you also have some past trauma with your parents, particularly your father, I doubly suggest you watch this film.

The movie delves into life’s harsh reality and how time inevitably slips through our fingers.

It also portrays the act of making illogical decisions based only on a gut feeling or a hunch, without knowing the result, as well as the idea of going all-in, never doing things by half. The protagonist’s story and his relationship with his father resonate deeply with me. He only realised the worth of his father’s presence in his life when it was too late – when his father had passed away.

The film’s central message, for me, is that our parents are not just our parents but individuals with their own needs, desires, and frustrations, just like anyone else.

Life is full of disappointments, especially when we prioritise others’ needs over our own. How we handle these disappointments is crucial to living a fulfilling life without frustration or bitterness.

I always shed tears when I watch this movie. Right from the opening scenes, it triggers an emotional response in me. At times, we need to change our perspective on our parents.

Instead of being selfish and judgmental, we should show them compassion and understanding.
