A New Christmas | Sharing It with Yasmin

Journalled on Thursday, 19 December 2024 | Santo Cristo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: 28 degrees, hot, sunny and slightly overcast.

It is Thursday, the final week before Christmas.

Yasmin will stay with me on Christmas Eve, just the two of us. This is the first time it has happened, and although it is strange, the prospect feels very good.

Since my separation from Nalva, she has never let me spend Christmas or New Year alone with Yasmin; she has always controlled the situation. When I confronted her about this, she said that one Christmas I was drunk, which was not true; she basically distorted the truth, so it’s for me not to spend either Christmas or New Year with my daughter, and even if it were, it is still bullshit.

I have always been completely dedicated to my daughters, especially Yasmin, and have never been disrespectful in any form or way. It was just one more time that Nalva distorted and twisted the truth for her own convenience.

However, as Yasmin is getting older and can make her own decisions, I also showed Nalva that I was no longer accepting the situation and that, at least, Yasmin should have the right to choose.

For the New Year, she invites her family, including her sisters, brother, and nephew, to stay at her flat in Flamengo, the South Zone of Rio. They come, cook a lot of food, buy a lot of drink, shower, dress up a little before the stroke of midnight, walk to Flamengo beach, see the fireworks at the turn of the New Year, drink some champagne or Prosecco, go home, and eat and drink until 5:00 or 6:00 in the morning.

It is a flat full of people, mostly women, who, together, usually do not shout but talk loudly and joke all the time. Yasmin enjoys her aunts company, so that the new year will be spent with her mother and Christmas with me.

I do not mind at all. I am happy with anything right and fair for all, including, obviously, my daughters or their mothers.

My late Christmas dinner will not match Nalva’s cooking, but it will be pleasant and good enough for both my daughter and me. I think he has enjoyed my company so far, so it should be a nice evening.

It has been another productive day of classes, Descript video editing and journaling.

How Good is that?

In bed by 8.30 p.m.

Thank you.
