Journalled on Sunday, 12th of February 2023| Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro: 27 degrees, hot and overcast.
I was up early yesterday and again today, at 5:30 a.m. on a Sunday. I arrived at the end of Leme for a workout, and I was astonished!
What I forgot to mention yesterday was that an enormous temporary stage for Carnival stood there, with speakers, steel partitions/railings, diesel generators, etc. They erected it right where the dog owners usually stay with their dogs. And today, to my surprise, in just 24 hours, everything was gone.
The stage had been disassembled and removed, leaving no trace that it had been there the day before. VANISHED!!!
This got me thinking! When a public administrator is interested in something, it gets done; when they aren’t, it doesn’t. This means that if something benefits them rather than the public, they’ll prioritise it; but if it doesn’t help them, even if it is essential for the public, they won’t do it.
Unfortunately, this is the case with many governments, especially the Federal and local Brazilian governments, which don’t really care about their people. They talk a lot and promise a lot, but do the opposite or nothing. This is why I judge people by what they do, not what they say.
Instead of heading straight home after my workout, I continued walking down Av. Atlântica until I reached Praça Serzedelo Correa. Every Sunday, a street fair sells fresh fruit and vegetables.
The fair is so large that it surrounds the whole square. I usually buy my week’s supply of fruit and vegetables there. Upon returning home, I cleaned and prepared everything I had purchased, including cherry tomatoes, lettuce, arugula, and others, and stored them in large containers to make salads throughout the week.
In the afternoon, I rested, watched a film, studied a little, and walked on the beach. I’m too restless to stay home all afternoon.
I’ve realised that I am a morning person. Waking up early isn’t a problem for me, and I get a lot done while others are still asleep. I prefer doing most of my work in the morning so I can have the afternoon to myself. It was a good, straightforward Sunday, and I got to do a lot.
Thinking about the changes I will make after Carnival. Let it happen!
